1.04 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. Trash chutes for removing trash from
apartments, hospitals, hotels, motels and office buildings. They may be used in
conjunction with compactors or dumpsters.
1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. Manufacturing catalog.
B. Shop drawings in accordance with
Section [01300] [01340]
C. Certificate of assurance that chute materials
meet or exceed the standards of NFPA, National Fire Code No. 82.
1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Chute manufacturer shall
have minimum of five (5) years experience in the industry.
1.07
DELIVERY, STORAGE and HANDLING
A. Protect chutes and accessories to
prevent physical damage and deterioration from other construction and from
weather.
B. Provide covers for intake doors.
1.08
WARRANTY
A. Submit a one year manufacturer's warranty for material
and installation in accordance with Section [01700] [01740].
PART 2 : Products
2.01 MANUFACTURER

2.02 MATERIALS
A. Chute: 16 gauge aluminized steel 24" inches in diameter.
B.
Intake Doors:
1. Trash Chute Intake Doors: Type 304 Stainless steel,
bottom hinged hand-operated: 15" x 18" #1HH 1-1/2 hr. U.L. "B" label. Unexposed
portion of door not to exceed 250 degrees within the first 30 minutes of
the fire test.
2. Surfaces of door and frames to be unmarred by lapped
joints, bolted frame, screws or rivets. Frame trim to be of 18 gauge type 304
stainless steel and polished integrally with the door.
3. Door and frame are
mounted into intake throat with sheet metal screws into anchor plate and straps
welded to intake throat making door and frame readily removable without
marring the finished wall.
4. Door to be equipped with single-motion
T-handle and keyed lock.
C. Outlets/Discharge:
1. Chute to
have a type O.G. Outlet Door. Outlet door to be fireproof, self closing and
equipped with a fusible link.
D. Chute Vent: Full diameter aluminum
vent extending 4' - 0" above the roof consisting a flashing, vent body, solid
top cap with bird screen (curb by others).
2.03 ACCESSORIES
A. Sprinklers : 1/2 inch IPS sprinkler head at the top service opening
and alternating floor levels below.
B. Sanitizing System: 3/4 inch IPS
flushing spray head at the top service opening with a sanitizer proportioning
valve, a one gallon container, plastic hose and a bracket.
C. Sanitizer
Access Door: 15" x 15", U.L. 1-1/2 Hour "B" label door approved for
vertical shafts.
D. Floor Supports: 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 3/16" angle
floor supports as shown on approved shop drawings.
2.04 OPTIONAL
ACCESSORIES
A. Baffles: Rubber "back draft" baffles at each intake.
B. Factory Applied Mastic Sound Deadening.
C. Electric Interlock: The
electric interlock keeps the intake doors positively locked at all times except
during use.
2.05 FABRICATION
A. Factory assemble
chute with all joints welded and expansion joints at each floor. Lock-seamed
spiral pipe is acceptable.
B. Bolt intake doors in place on throats formed
into chute tubes.
C. Flash chute sections inside the sections below with no
bolts, clips or other projections inside chute to snag the flow of material.
D. Preposition support frames to ensure proper intake levels and plumbness.
E. Reinforce and support separately discharge doors and offsets at impact
area.
PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION
A.
Verify that openings are accessible and plumb.
3.02 ERECTION
A. Assemble the chute and chute accessories in place; align and anchor
in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
B. Plumbers shall run
water supplies to the flushing and sprinkler heads.
C. Electricians shall
run conduit and wiring to electrical equipment such as interlocks or heat
detectors when furnished.
D. Erect walls around chute after
all other work is completed. Chute intake door frames shall be set square and
flush with the finish wall line before the walls are erected. End of

with a fusible link. D. Chute Vent: Full diameter vent extending 4'-0" above the
roof consisting of a flashing, vent body, solid top cap with bird screen (curb
